Good take, Kiara!”
“I hope the audio didn’t cut out this time, Nikolas. Take 14 was good, and you know it.”
“Sorry, girl.” Nikolas shrugged.
“It’s alright, I’m just annoyed.” Kiara groaned.
Kiara took off the headphones and stepped out of the studio. Her bloodshot eyes darted around her co-producer's room, looking for a clock.
“Christ, what time is it?”
“It’s almost midnight, Kiara. Be glad I decided to invest in some soundproofing.”
“If I end up waking your dog, I will be so sorry.”
“Amalie’s an old geezer. She’s probably fast asleep.”
“Just saying. Where’s my coffee?”
“Over there, by your phone.”
She glanced around at the room around her as she took a sip of her black bitter coffee. Nikolas was staring a hole into his phone, presumably busy checking his emails regarding his new deal with Engelholz. Amalie slept on her bed, resting soundly. Maya, his sister, was comfortably passed out and made her bed on the couch after arriving to drop off tonight’s dinner.
“Wait, we completely skipped dinner.”
“You completely skipped dinner. I ate while you did takes 16, 17, and 18.”
“What did you order?”
“Zhenkekou opened a new branch in Alvastadt last month if you haven’t noticed. I ordered seafood chow mein.”
“Damn, the last time I had ZKK was my 2017 Kikyo gig. Is it still hot?”
"Put it in the microwave if it isn’t.”
“Thanks, man.”
“Yeah, just eat quickly.”
She peered into the plastic bag resting on the countertop and opened the container; the smell of room-temperature shrimp, scallops, vegetables, and noodles wafted into her nose. She sneered a bit as she realized she’d taken too long making takes to eat.
“Nikolas, where’s the microwave again?”
“Kiara, you are the most unobservant person I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.”
