Tilenno (Tilennan: Tilèno [tiːlɛnɔ] (listen); Ovannois: Tilène [ti.lɛn] (listen)), officially known as the Federal Purity of Tilenno (Tilennan: Purena Tilèno [pyːʀeːnɑ tiːlɛnɔ] (listen); Ovannois: Purité Fédéral de la Tilène [pyʁi.te fe.de.ʁal də la ti.lɛn] (listen)), is a country located in the North-Western part of Avalonia. It is bordered by Osorra to the South; Arroyo-Abeille to the North; and the Tethys Ocean to the West. Tilenno covers a land area of 1,523,572 square kilometres (588,254.75 sq mi)[1], making it Anterra's 6th-largest nation by area[2]. Tilenno is officially home to approximately 65,996,380 inhabitants[3], making it the 27th-largest nation by population in Anterra[4]. Unofficial estimates put the population closer to 67.5 million as the federal area of Kaesami is not included in the official census. Tilenno is organised as a federation of 36 city-states, the free city-state and capital region of Hireno, the autonomous region of Zesha, and the federal areas of Kaesami and Latanga[lower-alpha 1]. The 36 city-states are furthermore part of one of five regions[5]. Its largest urban areas are Glikaero, Hireno, Ytriva, Ennia and Saint-Martin.
Tilenno is shaped by her rugged and mountainous nature, which harbors small pockets of life in between. Most of its population is centered around the lake of Gantes and the Atrivan and Làmosan Sea. The national flower of Tilenno is the Tilennan Lavender and its national animal the Sunrise Hummingbird[6]. Because of its isolated ecosystem, Tilenno is home to some unique species not found anywhere else in Anterra and is an important nation for the world's biodiversity. Most people in the nation speak the Tilennan language, but notably the North mainly speaks Ovannois[7]. Tilenno also has a relatively high percentage of Akitei people living within its borders, they make up the largest foreign group in the federation. The largest religion in the federation is Lonàkae by a significant margin, followed by Catholicism[lower-alpha 2] and Buddhism[8].
The lake of Gantes and the river valleys of the Perto and Mesèra rivers, which are still located at the heart of the modern nation, were home to one of the earliest recorded civilizations in Anterra. They can trace their origin back to approximately 4200 to 6000 BCE, making it one of Anterra’s cradles of civilization[9]. It was not until 2000 BCE that the Tilennan world was first united under the Kingdom of Teruko. However the palace economies started collapsing and in 1200 BCE Tilenno moved into a dark age. It was only at the turn of the millennia that steam picked back up as the region moved into the Sailing Age in which small city-states squabbled for dominance. This changed when Làgora managed to conquer all the city-states under their rule, but its empire quickly collapsed into 3 dynasties[10]. While this era was at first characterised by peace and prosperity; disease, succession crises and infighting led to the collapse of this system around 100 CE and left the region open for foreign rule from the South. When a military coup in 365 CE resulted in the fall of this foreign rule, the first Purity of Tilenno was established, which is still seen as the start of a unified Tilennan identity. The Purity then collapsed into smaller dynasties and kingdoms, which joined under the Royal Confederacy of Tilenno in 1543 as a response to the colonial threat. While this prevented a full colonisation by Ovancia, the north was still subjugated under colonial rule. In 1743 the Second Colonial War resulted in victory for Tilenno, reuniting the Royal Confederacy, which was a controversial agreement and resulted in multiple insurgencies in the North, which led to the Tilenno-Arroyo War and the Tilennan Christian Genocide[11].
Modern history starts with the declaration of the Second Purity of Tilenno by Pures Seinae the Reborn and the 1895 Civil War in which it eventually resulted. The Civil War of Tilenno was eventually won by the more conservative Royalists against the Liberalists and is to this day seen as the reason Tilennan progress was halted. A successive famine then caused to population to take a drastic hit and sent out a first wave of the Tilennan Diaspora. The years after the famine were however a golden age for Tilenno as the rest of the world was fighting it out in major wars. This golden age would come to an end with the communist uprising and the Mineworker's Revolt which spurred a drastic radicalisation in Tilenno and would result in the Osorra-Tilenno War in 1978. While winning the war, Tilenno took heavy damage and casualties and the city of Saechire, just outside of Hireno, was nuked. To this day the effects of this war are still felt in the federation. The modern day nation struggles with political fragmentation, the education crisis, droughts and the independence movement of Zesha. Tilenno is part of the UNC
Tilenno is a developing nation with a total GDP (PPP) of $1.638 Trillion and a GDP per capita of $24,800 in 2018. Its largest trading partners are Arroyo-Abeille, New Valentina and Akiteiwa, with trade with Osorra also rapidly increasing. The largest industries in Tilenno are the chemical, textile, and mining industries. While Tilenno used to be a regional power before the Osorra-Tilenno War, the crippling effects of this war have taken a drastic toll on the nation's economy and the federation is still recovering. The nation also struggles with social inequality, poverty, organised crime, homicide, and rampant racism, homophobia and intolerance. On the other hand the nation has the highest rate of gender equality, with almost no discernable differences between men an women being present, and very progressive transgender rights.
Etymology
The concept of Tilenno as a single unified entity is a relatively new one, only getting solidified with the establishment of the Royal Confederacy of Tilenno in 1543. The area where Tilenno is now located is part of the larger region of Perela and was never seen as separate from it. Often the region was referred to as the northern islands or land between mountains instead. The earliest occurrence if the name Tilenno can be traced back to a Ossoi writer named Vocho Chisse who wrote a book About the Tilennan People in 1254, detailing the lands north of the Ossoi Empire. It is thus fair to assume the term Tilenno came into use around the 11th century CE in and at the latest got codified in the 13th century. When the Ovancians arrived in the 16th century, the name was established enough for the colonial settlers to bring it back to Artemia, where it entered into global use.
Over the years there have been many discussions on where the name Tilenno actually comes from. Nowadays there are 3 leading theories on the etymology of the name:
The first one says that the name is derived from the Old Tilennan words tilèra (Tilennan: tilae) and hènas (Tilennan: ires), meaning land and people respectively. So Tilenno would translates to land of the people. Because of its simple and clear origin, this theory is the most popular and also the one accepted by the Tilennan language authorities. However, opposers argue that the simplicity of its origin might lead to a quick and easy, but ultimately wrong conclusion. While land of the people might sounds reasonable at first, Tilenno was never separate from the rest of Perela and therefore didn't have a strong enough identity to use this as its name. It's also unlikely the name was given as an exonym.
The second one claims that it comes from the old words for us and sea, ti (Tilennan: xa) and lenas (Tilennan: lona) respectively. Translating to seas given to us, referencing the lake of Gantes, the Atrivan and Làmosan Sea. This theory is popular because it references the unique geographical features that separated Tilenno from the rest of the region. Referencing larger regions in this way had been done for millennia at this point and this could therefore just be seen as a natural evolution of this system. Sometimes the ti- part is also interpreted as tilera like in the first theory, giving it the meaning of land of seas, which could also be plausible.
The last theory seeks the origin in the old word for sailing, ílenàrei (Tilennan: olònarí). This is in reference to the ancient sailing culture of Tilenno and could translate to land of the sailing people or the sailing country. This one is popular because it is the only realistic theory that seeks the etymology in an exonym for the region. The fact that it was an exonym makes sense in the context of the first occurence of the name Tilenno, being in a book from a writer who lived in the Ossoi Empire.

History of Tilenno
Prehistory (... - 4200 BCE)
Tilenno was one of the first places reached by early human migrants coming from Zahava, where they originated, through modern-day Albaterra and Cipertine. They arrived somewhere around 50,000 BCE. These early people were exclusively hunter-gatherer societies that lived in groups of up to 24 members. They fed on wild deer, oxen, and alpacas, as well as plants like wild berries, and root vegetables. Around 40,000 BCE a genetic mutation occurred where a gene on the X chromosome caused hair to stop producing melanin. Due to this hair stayed grey through one's entire life. It quickly spread from its place of origin, namely West Gantes, to other parts of Perela.
It took until the 9th millennium BCE for the region to move into the Mesolithic age, during which the Salèpisian cave paintings in Rènes were made. By the 7th millennium BCE, the Neolithic age rolled around. The first sedimentary settlement is believed to have been established around 6000 BCE somewhere in the Perto river valley, although conclusive evidence has yet to be presented. During this period people were able to craft boats and weapons from basic metals like copper and tin.
Ancient History (4200 - 1200 BCE)
Ancient history is said to start in 4200 BCE when the first confirmed city of Laeke was founded in the Perto river valley. Not a lot is known of the people that first inhabited this valley as only a few artefacts remain. What is known for certain is that the basis for the ancient Tilennan Pantheon was established along with several practices like face-painting and infant sacrifices. In 3300 BCE bronze tools first show up as well as decorative objects made from precious metals like gold and silver. Almost two millennia after Laeke, Teruko gets founded in the Mèseres river valley. In the following centuries, as civilization spread, different groups split off and diversified, as seen with societies like the Qio, Perates, Úsh, and Kaiose. As time progressed, small tribal units grow out to chiefdoms and even small kingdoms. It is also around this time that a group of unknown Tilennan people first started sailing the Tethys Ocean. When the 2nd millennium BCE arrives, a large-scale battle erupts between these different entities that encompassed the Lake of Gantes. This clash is known as the Pan-Gantian War and mainly lives on in the mythological retelling and subsequent story of Mareiso.
Teruko turned out victorious and now controlled most of the territory around the Lake of Gantes. It started to establish palace economies in their newly controlled regions, modelled after the capital city. The palaces controlled all the agricultural output of a region, which at the time mainly consisted of tiresta grain and dried meats like odeitan ox, deer, serelian turkey and cloud alpaca, and fruits like serela, from which the alcoholic beverage shizae is made. Resources then got redistributed based on individual needs without the need for a currency. This relationship between the different regions is often referred to as the Terukian Kingdom, but in reality, it functioned more as a loosely controlled alliance of palaces that swore loyalty to the capital of which the Terukian king was the leader. Teruko notably had a male-preference lineage, as there were three known occasions where a queen sat on the throne. Slowly Teruko also started expanding along the coast of the Atrivan Sea and later on the Làmosan and Osorran coasts. Around 1850 BCE Taeka Volcano in Pentura erupted, bringing a period of severe darkness and cold. This eruption is said to be the inspiration for the eruption of Fourae in the myth of Mareiso. Overall the Terukian Age was a relatively peaceful and prosperous time, which gave way to many forms of art and philosophy to flourish. Most importantly, the foundations of Lonàkae were laid by Taumàsae of Umia, the statue of Kae was created and the story of the Pan-Gantian War and Mareiso were first written down by Qisias. Around 1600 BCE the Terukian dynasty fell and the palaces broke apart into small independent entities.
The period from 1600 to 1200 BCE is known as the Warring Kingdoms Era, as many small states squabbled and fought each other. Eventually, the Imne and Quaso dynasties managed to unify a significant portion of these states. Around 1300 BCE the two heirs of these dynasties intermarried and formed the Imne-Queso dynasty, later renamed Camnes. However, Camnes quickly fell apart again into Artenio and Varaesa. Not long after the fall of Camnes, the Tilennan world was shaken by natural disasters, external raids, and internal struggles, which causes the downfall of the palace economies. Many of the once great cities got abandoned, the exact reason for this is still unknown. The people from Teruko moved downstream to found Ytriva. The ruins of the old city are still located within Ytrivae and parts of it are open to the public, while the rest remains an active archaeological site. The ruins of Teruko have proven a valuable site as they contained many clay tablets written in the Proto-Tilennan script, detailing myths, inventories, and trade. From these tablets, it was found out that a trading route through the Kaesami Desert existed, nicknamed the Canyon Trail.
Sailing Age (1200 - 298 BCE)
Following the downfall of the palace economies, Tilenno entered a period of turmoil and instability. During this time Perela slowly moved into the iron age. Several city-states were formed as regions tried to establish control and figure out their internal politics. Most notably Rèleso, Làgora, Ytriva and Hireno came about. Overall culture stagnated and trade ground to a halt. A fire in Rèleso around 1100 BCE also destroyed many important historical documents.
This period of stagnation came to an end with the great Qlikosian outreach in 932 BCE, in which the city of Rèleso started establishing trade routes and diplomatic ties again. In 876 BCE Qlikos and Chives entered into the Diamond Island Alliance, a political, military, and economic union between the two city-states, which strengthened their influence in the region. Soon more states from around the Atrivan Sea joined in. Meanwhile, the first Ashaeic Games were held in Ashae and the first astrological council was erected in Umia. With Dario Levaere becoming queen of Qlikos in 854 BCE, Atriva got propelled into a golden age. However, the other city-states weren't as happy with this dominant Alliance, especially those in Gantes and Làmosa, as they had no way around them. It came to a first confrontation at the Pangamo Isthmus in 806 BCE, in which Shudero led a heavy loss against the Alliance and a canal was built through the isthmus. This sparked fear in the other states and soon after, in 788 BCE, the Làmosa-Gantian Axis was formed, with Làgora and Ytriva at the forefront. The Calm Coast Trading Route was introduced, which allowed the Axis to avoid Atriva altogether. To keep the situation from escalating Rèleso held a grand event, known as the 100-day feast, in which they tried to persuade the other states to keep the peace and reach a compromise. The diplomatic route seemed to work, mostly due to the military superiority of the Alliance. But when in 767 BCE an earthquake in Chives sent a flood wave across the Atrivan Sea, destroying many of their ships, the playing field suddenly got levelled.
Out of fear of an attack from the Axis, the Alliance decided to pre-emptively strike to keep the upper hand and disrupt their main trading route. In 765 BCE they launched a surprise attack and in one night they sieged and captured the city of Shudero. This is known as the Night of the Dying Star and marks the beginning of the First War of Seas. The Axis tried to retake the city in vain. The next three decades are marked by continuous battle and struggle, with neither party able to turn the tide of war. But when during the battle of Onega the Qlikosian queen, Silo Levaere, was killed, her dynasty got replaced with Remaese, sparking internal conflict in the Alliance. When Pentura and Àsaupaso later left the Diamond Islands, the war was quickly decided in favour of Làmosa and Gantes. 70 years after the start of the war, the city of Shudero was finally liberated, marking the end of the First War of Seas.
The Atrivan Isles, now poor and cut-off from the agricultural resources of Gantes, found themselves in desperate need of more land. They decide to sail south along the Coral Coast and set up multiple small colonies. Qlikos also went through a major political shift, removing the old dynasty with a diarchic system. Làmosa tried to mimic their colonial successes in the South by searching for new lands to the West, discovering Latanga and some other East-Tethian Islands. Tensions started to rise as both regions expanded their armies with their newfound riches. In 572 BCE a dispute over the Taeki Islands catapulted the region into the Second War of Seas. Once again Làmosa, lead by Làgora, proved stronger, destroying much of the Atrivan navy in a surprise siege at the Pangamo canal. The capture of Rèleso in 533 BCE marks the end of the Second War of Seas.
However, Làmosa and Atriva didn't stop expanding their colonies and moved into a colonial golden age lasting 2 centuries. Qlikos adopted Lonàkean beliefs during the Terukian Revival, which quickly spread to the other regions, at which point Lonàkae starts coexisting with the Pantheon. When explorers came into first contact with the Paracas Empire, a major cultural shock coursed through Perela, as their worldview didn't allow for complex civilization outside of their own. The validity of the traditional beliefs got put into question during a period known as the potato crises. City-states were in turmoil as they tried to control the revolting populous. Làgora was the first city-state to restabilise in 332 BCE by successfully introducing a reformed Lonàkean system in the form of the Kaeta pa Ui. With the other parts still in chaos, it saw an opportunity to finally unite Perela and so the Làgoran conquests started. They quickly swept across the Tilennan lands and by the start of the 3rd century BCE had managed to unite most of the regions of Làmosa, Atriva, and Gantes. Their rule however didn't last long, as in 298 BCE the conquered regions started revolting, breaking the Làgoran territory apart.
Classical Age (298 BCE - 748)
After the Làgorian lost control over their conquered regions, their territory split apart into 3 dynasties. The Seles dynasty took control over the Làmosan heartland with Làgora as capital, Kalio took the regions around the Atrivan Sea, renaming their capital in Rèleso to Glikaero and the Mento settled around the Lake of Gantes with Ytriva as capital.
Early on the Mentian dynasty invented the heavy plough driven by the odeitan ox, sparking an agricultural revolution in Gantes. The population started to rise and in 208 BCE, Ytriva reached 500 000 inhabitants, making it the largest city in all of Anterra at the time. These first two centuries were marked by political stability and peace, with the different dynasties trying to outperform each other in cultural prowess instead of military might. Art and philosophy flourished during this period. No major battles occurred, safe from the Fares Incident, in which an astrological omen caused Seles to attack the Kalian part of Fares, which eventually failed after Mento interfered.
Around 200 BCE the Umeic Fish Plague broke out in Umia. The plague quickly spread and ended up killing a quarter of the Perelan population, mainly affecting the urban settlements. In 176 BCE the Kalian king and all his children succumbed to the disease, ending the Kalio dynasty and plunging Atriva into chaos. What followed was the First War of Hummingbirds in which five people all claimed to be the rightful successor to the Kalian throne. In 152 BCE, Mira Valèsa emerged victorious at the battle for Pentura, becoming the first queen of the Valèsa dynasty. She ended up marrying the Selesian king, which created the Valèsa-Seles dynasty. Slowly after the plague faded and the war ended the dynasties regained control. The next two centuries were relatively peaceful, except for minor skirmishes like the Javelin Fraud War and the Independence Wars of Onisia. In 44 CE the Valo-Selesian army committed a coup after the monarch was deemed too blinded by power to be fit to rule. This marked the beginning of the Second War of Hummingbirds, with this time the Mento dynasty coming out victorious in 67. This situation turned out to be too unstable and 4 years later the Mento dynasty collapsed too. This started the Third War of Hummingbirds, completely ravaging cities and culture, leaving them vulnerable to foreign invasion.
In 105 the Osorran Kingdom started their conquest of the North, quickly subduing the tired and fractured kingdoms, completing it in 131 with the fall of Mesèra. During the next two centuries, the region was kept under foreign rule from the South. Some rebellions did occur, like the Ytrivan Revolt of 185, but none managed to be successful. it was only with the Northern Schism in 365, that a military coup was able to sever the northern regions from the Osorran Kingdom. The First Purity got established, with Rimona Saevo-Leradenae as the first Pures. Many of the cities were opposed to the new unfounded leadership and tried to regain their independence amidst the turmoil. In 397 the treaty of Chives got signed, giving the cities more economic and military freedom.
In 411 Pures Sànaero got poisoned by her aunt, her son who would be the heir gets strangled to death 12 days later, never ascending the throne. The next Pures, Seiliae, got so paranoid about a potential attack that he locked down the palace and executed all people suspected to conspire against him, including 14 members of the royal family. In 478, Pures Miliosae disbanded the entire Pural Astrological Council, because he was disappointed in their lack of knowledge about actual astrology. He proceeded to win the Zeshan Wars without advisors, adding the Middle Mesères Valley to the Purity. In 588 a major famine broke out and the populous revolted, in Kaeriso a rebellion of 200 peasants was executed.
When Pures Rimona II died in 612, she left her 12-year-old son as Pures. The leaders of the cities disagreed with this decision and tried to replace him with their preferred leader. However, general Desaekes manages to subjugate the cities again and grabs power for herself. Because she had no heirs, she adopted a daughter. Later on, she did however gave birth to her own son. When she died a succession war between her two children broke out, which ended up killing them both. In the end, the cities installed their preferred leader, Raesèle, anyway. But when he died the lineage got so complex that 5 different people claimed the throne. Eventually, three factions would battle it out in the Pural Wars. These Wars prove inconclusive and the Purity falls apart into smaller kingdoms in 748.
Feudal Age (748 - 1543)
Somewhere in the first half of the 8th century, West Tethian Sailors crossed the Great Gap in the Tethys Ocean and made their way to Tilenno. This opened up the Tethys Island Express trading route between East-Kesh and Perela. In particular, a lot of Akiteiwan influences entered Tilenno. In 767 Akiteiwan traders established the trading outpost of Sakuto in modern-day Sevada. From there they exchanged goods and ideas between the two civilizations. Particularly the introduction of rice caused a major shift in Tilennan agriculture as Tilenno had been relying mainly on tiresta and potatoes, which failed in the wetlands of Gantes. This caused merchants and rice producers to significantly gain in influence, to the dismay of the old established powers. In 812, the king of Gavaero restricted external trade to the harbour of Shudero and forces all land-owners under his vassalage as a response. Other kingdoms soon adopted similar measures.
In 844 the War of Winds broke out between the kingdoms of Mares and Nefeire, with later on Daekeres joining in on the side of Mares. Nefeire ended up losing and its land was split between its two aggressors. After almost a century of restrictions, the merchants and landowners revolted against the royal army in the kingdom of Làraudo. They came out victorious and opened the kingdom back up, causing Perteso to grow out to a regional hub of free trade. This started the Pertesian Golden Decades, which would eventually come to an end 40 years later under the rule of "disaster" queen Leiso. With the free city of Perteso gone, rebellions in other kingdoms would break out in the 50 Year Struggle. This ended up destroying most of the old kingdoms, with Deakeres falling last at the establishment of the Rice Kingdom Truce in 1023.
Kaeriso ended up breaking this truce in 1054 after a planned marriage went wrong with their neighbours. Alliances of different rice kingdoms started fighting each other. They quickly lost focus and ended up in an all-out squabble known as the First Tuta Unrest. During this unrest the Nàteicho dynasty rose to power in 1121 in Hireno, starting the current royal dynasty of Tilenno. The fighting continued until the Sires Treaty between 17 kingdoms near the modern Osorra-Tilennan border brought peace in 1134. After the Chivean prince got assassinated in 1166 when he tried to marry a commoner from Daereso, a war between the two kingdoms erupted, starting the Second Tuta Unrest, which would pave the way for the rise of larger dynasties.
By 1222 larger dynastic kingdoms started consolidating. Auleiko managed to persuade neighbouring kingdoms by supplying aid in return for loyalty. Meanwhile, Vaeshora was pursuing a naval conquest of the Atrivan Sea, capturing Glikaero in 1245. Mústaele and Sumeso fought in the River Wars which opened the door for the Zeshan expansion along the Mesères river. Later on, Mústaele would fall at the hands of Auleiko. By 1270 the dynasties were consolidated and growing distrust between the kingdoms resulted in the formation of an alliance between Vaeshora, Sumeso, and Nàteicho and on the other side a pact between Auleiko, Livona, and Gulisae. The resulting Bridge Wars ended in a victory for the alliance. The weakened pact would later face Mústaelan and Onisian independence groups that successfully managed to break off. in 1339 and 1387 respectively.
After Zesha conquered the northern parts of Sumeso, the Fumae Agreement between the dynasties got created in 1421 leading to an age of tense peace that lasted for more than a century. This era was characterised by a lot of intermarrying, family politics, and minor battles that never evolved into large-scale wars. This period is sometimes referred to as the Pax Fumae by international historians. Eventually, this peace would come to an end with the arrival of the Ovancians in 1543.
Royal Confederacy (1543 - 1857)
- See also: Tilennan Christian Genocide
In 1543 Ovancian explorers first set foot in what is now Tilenno near the modern-day city of Urème. By now word of strange white men from a far-away place coming to Avalonia had already reached the region. This caused the Tilennans to be wary of these explorers. At first, the Ovancians were mainly interested in the trade of local products and capturing the cultural differences. This could be seen in the many works written about them during this period like the book l'Homme Tilennois.
Later however their fears came true as in 1546, only 3 years after their arrival, Ovancia began the conquest of Zesha. Initially, the Ovancians quickly gained ground with their superior weapons and horses, causing Zesha to reach out to the southern kingdoms for aid. Gulisae and Vaeshora felt the heat rising and worrying they might be next, joined into a confederation with each other to combat the Ovancians. While being able to put up a fair resistance, Ennia was captured in 1551 and the rest of Zesha soon followed. Àmaeriko and Auleiko now also joined the Confederacy. The Tilennan army proved no match in land combat and Àmaeriko soon fell as well. With the North now in Ovancian hands, the other kingdoms joined in as well. However, Nàteicho and Laudes kept refusing. While Laudes was not as important, Nàteicho controlled a very important strategic position and them not joining was a huge disadvantage. So in 1556, a deal was struck in which the dynasty of Nàteicho would keep their status as symbolical ruler of the Confederacy, now named the Royal Confederacy.
As the Ovancian army approached the South, their rate of expansion quickly slowed down. This was mainly due to the advanced naval warfare techniques Tilenno had developed over the centuries, as well as a major home ground advantage in the prosperous and highly populated South. The Ovancian army could be stopped just above the city of Ytriva in the narrow Odeitan Passage. The main theatre now shifted towards Gulisae. It quickly came to a standstill, with Ovancia only being able to conquer the islands around Nauso and parts of Limenae. The Treaty of Ornans was signed in 1579, splitting the region up into Ovannois Tilenno and the Royal Confederacy.
The next century was characterised by a tense peace between the two regions. It also kept Tilenno from unravelling into chaos as that would spell certain doom against the Ovancians. The Royal Confederacy also started to expand its horizon, as they began sailing towards Artemia and trading with nations like Jungastia and Agrana y Griegro. This sparked a cultural and technological revolution in Free Tilenno. Sumeso and Mústaela also unified into Sarise and Laudes finally became part of the Confederacy. Meanwhile, the city of Saint-Martin, built on the remains of the city of Nauso, which was burned down in 1580, grew out to a major settlement within Ovannois Tilenno. Christianity also got introduced and quickly replaced Lonàkae as the main religion. At first Ovancian settlement was slow, but after gold was found in Kàtouro, many Ovancian came to seek their fortune, which was enhanced by a major famine in the 1620s.
Tensions would rise again as the Ovancians attacked the city of Làgora in 1676, which they managed to capture along with certain other areas in Làmosa. In 1721 a Second Colonial War broke out. The Royal Confederacy, now fighting with better weapons, was able to match the Ovancian forces. While going back and forth for a while, the Liberation of Làgora was a turning point in the War, after which the other areas were quickly liberated. The Treaty of Hireno was signed in 1743, giving the regions of Kàtouro and Zesha back to the Confederacy. The resistance of Tilenno worked as a ripple effect with other Avalonian nations aiming for independence as well, like the 1739 independence of Chezzetcook.
This reunification however wasn't very popular in the northern regions which at this point were largely of mixed race, Ovannois speaking and Christian. They would rather be a separate nation and so the Northern Protests broke out in 1746, demanding independence. In response, the Pures and southern kingdoms sent out an army of Achirei to rid Tilenno of Christianity and Artemian ideologies. This marked the start of the Tilennan Christian Genocide, which would go on to last for 240 years. While it was put forward as a religious and ideological cleansing, mainly white and mixed-race people were targeted. Saint-Martin, being a powerful city and largely Ovancian and Christian, became a safe haven during this genocide. After a large defeat of the Achirei in 1773 at Place-de-la-Reine, the repression slowly weakened, until Maerose the Unifier halted the official persecution of Christians in 1802.
During the early 19th century, Tilenno started to industrialise as new technologies and manufacturing methods reached the Royal Confederacy from West Artemian nations like Ovancia and Tiperyn. Tilenno started to develop a large textile and metalworking industry. However, this industrial revolution worsened the already existing differences in wealth, status, religion, language, and race which quickly led to worker protests in the large southern cities like Ytriva, Saechire, and Glikaero. This would eventually contribute for a large part to the Tilennan Civil War at the end of the century.
In 1820 a rebellion rose to power in Zesha aiming for an independent Zeshan state once again. They received backing from the Agranan crown who owned the northern colony of Arroyo. The Tilenno-Arroyan War lasted for 5 years and eventually it came to a standstill with a liberated part in the north. However, Agrana y Griegro wasn't willing to give up their newly conquered land and added it to their colony, causing the territory of Zesha to be split.
Modern History (1857 - ...)
- See also: Osorra-Tilenno War
As Tilenno continued to industrialise, inequality within the Confederacy grew. Especially the cities were tired of the oppressive nature of the old regimes and kingdoms. Meanwhile, the established powers feared a large-scale revolt. In an attempt to consolidate their power they proclaimed the Second Purity with the help of the ruling queen Seinae Nàteicho, who became the first Pures in 1857. This newfound centralised power was able to control the revolting cities and upkeep the established rule.
In 1858 Tilenno lost the islands of Latanga to the Vojiskiy Empire and soon after the kingdom of Arnica, loyal to the Empire, united the Bacti League and formed the united nation of Osorra under Vojiskiy. This new Artemian influence in the region sparked a second wave of Christian and Artemian repression. With tensions rising and divisions at an all-time high, the Ytrivan revolt of 1876 started a chain reaction of protest across the nation, especially in the other big cities like Glikaero, Saechire, and Saint-Martin. The protests escalated and in 1888 the Tilennan Civil War broke out. The war was mainly fought between the revolting city-states, dubbed the Liberalists, and the old kingdoms loyal to the crown and set on retaining stability, named to Royalists. Meanwhile, a third faction in the northern regions tried to use this turmoil to seek independence once again. While at the start of the war the Liberalist were able to make some headway, it quickly became clear that the Royalist army was much more powerful. This resulted in a major loss for the Liberalists in 1892 at the Battle of Chives. When Glikaero fell in 1895, the Royalists had won the Civil War. Secessionists in the North also failed in reaching their goals.
Even though the Liberalists had lost, the Royalists were open to making some changes to the Purity to ensure future stability. However, these were mainly symbolic like making the capital region of Hireno smaller and removing monarchs from the currency. The biggest change was the introduction of voting rights for the common people in return for a fee. After the Civil War ended a major famine broke out, however. This combined with war casualties caused the population to drop by 20% between 1890 and 1900. It also marked to start of the Tilennan diaspora, mainly towards North-East Avalonia and East Kesh.
When coal was found in Kàtouro and North Atriva in 1910, tides began to change for the Purity. Economic output and productivity grew and quality of life was on the rise. With the rest of the world tied up in large international conflicts like the Grand Campaigns, Vojiskiy War, and Great Kesh War, Tilenno thrived. It never played an active role in these conflicts, more so passively supporting certain sides with goods and equipment. It had a brief involvement in the Great Kesh War when in 1956 they tried to regain control over Latanga, which they had lost a century earlier, but they eventually failed. In 1956, state and religion finally got separated with the Pural Court ruling Shudaraina as a pseudo-science. The Astrological Councils got reformed to regular parliaments, with the Pural Astrological Council becoming the Senate.
From the 1960s onward the economy started to slump, worker conditions were still poor and the economic growth of the previous decades ground to a standstill now that other nations started to recover from their wars. Many sought refuge in communist ideology, mainly promoted by Osorra via radio broadcasts like Radio Cuzka. This resulted in the 1971 Mineworkers Revolt. The leading powers however had no interest in communism and sought to repress these movements. Xàreisae Couraede, at the time 19 years old, took an extreme stance against these communists and quickly became the frontrunner of the anti-communist movement. When the 1976 elections rolled around, he easily received a majority with his party FDL and became the youngest Prime-Minister of Tilenno ever at only 24 years old.
Tensions between Osorra and Tilenno started to rise. When in 1979 Osorra intercepted the Liria Message in which Tilenno asked other nations for help in an inevitable war, they launched a pre-emptive strike against the Purity, starting the Osorra-Tilenno War. As Tilenno hadn't been fully prepared yet, Osorra quickly advanced into Tilennan territory, almost reaching the capital and Tilennan heartland. This however started to worry Cipertine, who enter the war in 1980. This caused the tide of war to change as Tilenno slowly pushed back with the help of Cipertine. In a last act of desperation, Osorra detonated a nuclear bomb on the city of Saechire, right next to the capital and at the time the 5th largest city of the Purity. This usage of nuclear weapons, led other members of the NSC to step in, leading to the complete defeat of Osorra.
Even though Tilenno won the war, reparation costs were high and as a reward the NSC expected Tilenno to introduce changes to its constitution like religious freedom, which ended the Tilennan Christian Genocide. The next decades were marked by trying to rebuild the South, keeping the unity between the struck regions and states that opposed the war. This lead to a fragmentation of the Tilennan political landscape. Currently, Tilenno is mainly involved in international operations in Osorra like Villa Rosa and the reintroduction of the Tsar. Internally it struggles with high rates of crime and homicide, an education crisis, prolonged droughts, independence movements in the North, and rising conservatism. However, Tilenno seems to slowly be climbing out of the economic recession caused by the war, with GDP rising faster than the world average each year. The current Prime Minister is Merena Loutecho from GXD.

Rivers and Lakes
Tilenno is reliant on three main rivers, on which most inland cities are located. The Mesères river which runs down from the North, between the Muqa and Gèreiva mountain ranges and runs next to the Odeitan mountain range, flows out in the Gantian Lake. The cities of Ytriva, Teruko-Kitrae, Ennia and Mesèra are located on this river. The Mesères floods in summer. The Kústera branches of the Mesères and runs through the Kaesami desert, it is known to occasionally dry up during the dry season. The river tends to by enclosed by canyons most of its length, so settlements across the Kústera are rare, with the biggest one being Doraso, bordering the lake of Kúsha. The third river is the Perto which originates from the West Osorran Mountains, and it is the biggest river by water displaced of the three. It cuts through the Kerela and Vèsaura mountain ranges and flows out in the Lake of Gantes as well. The Perto floods in winter. The main settlement on this river is Perteso. The biggest lake in Tilenno is the lake of Gantes. It is the cultural bakermat of Tilenno and by extension Avalonian civilization. Its main two tribuaries are the Mesères and Perto river, which causes it to flood twice a year. Other smaller lakes are scattered across Tilenno, like the lakes of Ennia, Werengo lake, Faudo lake, Zjira lake, Kúsha lake and the lake of Life.
Mountains
Tilenno is a very mountainous country. Most of the big chains are located directly on the coast formed by convergeance of the Avalonia plate with the Tethys and Kihei Plate. The biggest chain is the Odeitan mountain range, which also feautures the second highest peak in Tilenno, Letae Nihones at 5243m above sea level. Further up North the Gèreiva and Muqa mountain ranges follow on the Odeitan. In the Muqa range Tilenno's highest point is located, namely Letae Ulèsares at 5682m, as well as the third highest point, Letae Kareino, 5138m. The Gèreiva mountains are less extreme, wth its highest point at 4747m, named Faude. In the South the triple mountain range is located, which consists of the Kerela and Vèsaura mountain ranges and the Dividing mountains in the middle. Their highest point, Keno, at 4874m is situated on the Southern border with [Osorra]]. Besides mountain ranges, Tilenno also features the Louga and Reisa plateau in the Kaesami Desert and the White Hills in Zesha.
Sea and Islands
Tilenno has an estimated 11 000 islands within its territories, of which only 600 are inhabited permanently. The biggest island, Glikaero is also Tilenno's most populous and has the largest city in the nation. Other important islands or island groups in Tilenno are: Iles-Saint-Martin, with its largest island Nause, on which Martones is located, the Bazja Archipelago, the Diamond Islands, Onisian Islands and the Sevadan Islands. The Tilennan islands are considered part of the East Tethys and share a lot of cultural similarities to them, especially the further west you go. Tilenno also claims the islands of Latanga, but this remains a disputed area.
Tilenno divides her island up in different classes ranging 1-10 based on certain criteria:
Requirements | Amount | Notes | |
---|---|---|---|
Class I | population over 1 Million | 3 | Glikaero, Martones And Hireno Center Isle |
Class II | population over 200 000 | 21 | |
Class III | population over 50 000 | 47 | |
Class IIV | population over 5 000 | 167 | |
Class IV | population over 100 | 302 | |
Class V | permanent population under 100 | 129 | |
Class VI | temporary population | 34 | resorts, research islands, military bases, tourist sites ... |
Class VII | abandoned | 43 | former population left or completely died out |
Class VIII | uninhabited | 10 000 | no population or permanent structures |
Class IIX | nature reservation | 568 | protected by the state against settlement, mainly bird sanctuaries |
While Tilenno has a relativy long coastline, most of it is quite rugged and rocky and therefore maladapted for human settlement, most of the more populated coastal regions are therefore located around the Artivan ands Lamosan Sea as they are more suitable for settlement. The coastline of Katouro is often nicknamed the empty coast and has been awarded the prize of worst touristic area 37 out of 41 times. Of all the coastal regions Limenae is the most productive as it produces a large share of agricultural goods, with a large focus on fruits.
Desert
Most of Tilenno's land area is covered by a sprawling desert, named the Kaesami desert, which extends further out of Tilenno into neighbouring countries like Arroyo-Abeille and Cipertine and is part of the longer continuous North Avalonian Desert. Not a lot of vegetation is found in the desert except form some places on the Louga Plateau and around the lake of Kúsha. The only major settlement here is Dòraso. The desert is mostly used to generate solar energy due to its extreme amount of sunshine a year. A high speed railway crosses the Kaesami Desert along the Kústèra river axis. Most of Tilenno's gemstones are also found here, proving to be a valuable source of resources.
Overall the Desert is relatively flat with some smaller wind eroded hills scattered across the landscape. The area receives minimal rainfall with most of the desert receiving less than 200 mm of rainfall a year. While in during the day desert can reach scorching temperatures of up to 50°C, the nights are particularly cold with most nights reaching freezing temperatures.
Various nomadic tribes roam the desert from oasis to oasis, they speak their own language and are in no way connected to the Tilennan government. They have no voting rights and are not even counted as Tilennan citizens. The deal between Tilenno and these tribes is that Tilenno owns the land and natural resources and the tribes have no obligation in regards to government and are let to exist peacefully. These tribes however have the ability to become full Tilennna citizens if they so desire, leading many to move out of the desert, causing their numbers to dwindle as they slowely integrate into Tilennan society.
Biodiversity
Vegetation
Most of Tilenno has sparse vegetation and low shrubs. The islands and regions around rivers and lakes are generally more lush, featuring lots of trees and shrubs. the further you stray the more barren. The mountains around the Gantain lake have big grasslands that are primarily used for cattle grazing. eventually you'll hit the Kaesami Desert where plants come to die, if you're lucky you'll find the occasional cactus or shrub. In Eastern Zesha you'll find extensive Steppes. Tilenno has some unique native plants like the Serela Berry Vine, Bulb Cactus, Red Palm and Sunroot.
Animals
Tilenno is home to various species of animal life. Most well known are the national animals, the Sunrise Hummingbird and Dolphin. In the southern parts around the lake of Gantes it is common to find species like the Tilennan Tree Fox, Capybara, Porcupine, North-Avalonian Squirrel, various species of rabbits and armadillo. Nearing the mountains and forests one is expected to find Cloud Alpacas, deer, Odeitan Oxes and Llamas. In the Deep south of Pàvona various feline species have ocaasionally been spotted like Panthers and Jaguars, although they don't commonly live in these areas.
Various bird species also reside in Tilenno, like hummingbirds, parrots, Cranes and maybe most famously of all the Serelian Turkey. Hawks and Buzzards are commonly spotted in the mountains. The seas are very lively, being able to find Manatees, Dolphins, Squid, Octopus and various other aquatic species. The desert is less biodiverse, you're lucky if you're able to spot a {{wpl|Desert Mouse}] or Vulture
A very important animal to Tilennan culture is the Dorenges, Veiled fly or Tilennan Flower Bug. It produces a silk like substance in its cocooning fase, enabling the production of Tilennan silk, which is generally matter than the Keshan Silk from Kodeshia. This insect is only found around the lake of Gantes and its silk is hard to come by and not suited for large-scale mass-production. Tilennan Silk is a prized fabric all over Anterra and one of the most expensive as well.
Climate
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The Tilennan climate is dry with minimal percepetation. It receives high amount of sunshine, but can only sustain agriculture on lands bordering rivers or lakes without extensive irrigation. Average temperatures range between 10 and 30°C year though. The highest temperature ever recorded in Tilenno was 57,9°C just out of Dòraso. The lowest was -14°C in the Northern mountains.
Most of the rain falls during the summer, causing the Mesères to flood. Other times in the year almost no rain falls. This means that Tilenno on average receives around 2800 hours of sunshine a year.
Demographics
Language
The most common first language in Tilenno is Tilennan with about 45.2 million speakers or 77% of the population. Combined with the second language speakers, about 97% is capable of speaking Tilennan. This is mainly due to the fact that Tilennan language education is mandatory nationwide.
Ovannois comes second with about 7.8 million speakers, but it has a large number of second language speakers because it is the official language of Zesha, where it is not spoken as a first language by the majority of the population. Ovannois is also a commonly taken subject in Tilennan education, but is not mandatory. However with the rise of Ovannois as a global lingua Franca, more and more people are able to speak it. Most Tilennan stars on the video-platform Metu, provide content in Ovannois.
Zeshan is widely spoken in the region of Zesha, but is not the official language of the region and the number of speakers has been slowly dwindeling as Ovannois becomes more common and the population of Zesha decreases due to emigration to the big Tilennan cities.
The only other 2 recognised regional languages in Tilenno are Dòrasan, a pidgin language of Tilennan and Ovannois spoken in around the lake of Kúsha in the Kaesami desert, although Tilennan is the official language here. There is also Latangan spoken on the islands of Latanga, where either Tilennan or Yarovan is the official language.
There are also lots of foreign language speakers in Tilenno, with the most common one being Akitei, Agranian and Jungastian. It is also known that there are a lot of Yarovan speakers in Tilenno, but this language is never stated as an option in the census, so official numbers are not known.

Ethnicity
The largest ethnic group in Tilenno is native Tilennan at about 87% of the population. Native Tilennans are very distinct due to their dark skin and gray, almost white hair, which isn't found anywhere else in the world, except from the eastern islands in the Tethys Ocean, as these are believed to be related to mainland Tilennans. These are also included in the Tilennan ethnicity. While most Tilennans speak the Tilennan language, they are also found in the regions of Katouro and Zesha, where Ovannois is official. Many Tilennan people are also found abroad due to the multiple diaspora waves over the last 2 centuries. Every ethnic Tilennan has the right of return and Tilennan citizenship. Tilennans were often described as alienlike by other cultures that encountered them, due to their unique appearance, strange customs and interesting fashion. Pure Tilennans have become rarer over the years, skintone and skincolor now varies more than in the past. Typical Tilennan features are still highly prized, seeing a rise in the deamnd for hair bleaching and toning, as well as darkening foundations and artificial tanning.
The second largest group is Western Artemian at about 7% of the population. Mainly residing in the French speaking regions, these people have settled Tilenno in the colonial era. Most of them came from Ovancia, but people from Agrana y Griegro and Jungastia are also present. However in the Tilennan speaking regions they're hard to find. The only Non-Ovannois speaking city with a sizeable Western Artemian community is Limona. A lot of the people who claim to be of Artemian decent are often mixed race. Racism towards this minority group is common, as the native population still associates them with the challenges colonization brought along.
In Tilenno there is also a decent group of West Kesh decend, mainly from Pseiwan at 3%. This can be attributed to the colonization of Paseiwa by Tilenno in the 19th century. A lot of Pseiwan people were intermarried to Tilennan people, making the distinction between the two diffucult, as they both feauture dark skin. Racism towards this group is noticeably less, due to similarities in appearance, language and religion, as well as a lack of negative stigma around them.
Other minority ethnic groups in Tilenno include: Akitei, East Artemian and other Avalonians. Out of these Eastern Artemians have to most stigma of any group surrounding them, mainly from countries of the past Vojiskiy Empire
Religion
Lonàkae
Lonàkae is a philosophical religion created by Taumàsae of Umia during the Terukian Age. At its core it believes that everything will return to a state of balance and that one should try to act in order to promote this return. It relies on the duality of the sun and the ocean as the outmost extremes. The clash of these two is the origin of all life. This clash is controlled by time, who in the end will bring the ultimate balance when the two extremes become one.
Lonàkae has three main principles: Modesty, where the sun represents scarcity and the ocean excess, Englightenment, where the sun represents blinding and the ocean darkness and Humbleness, with the sun pride and the ocean rudeness.
Lonàkae became the main religion of Atriva after their defeat in the first war of seas. Since then its influence spread rapidly and became the state religion of Tilenno during the Imperial Age. When Ovancia introduced Christianity to Tilenno, the Confederacy refused to adopt it and after the colonizers left, aimed to eridicate Christianity from the country, known as the Christian-Tilennan Genocide. Lonàkae is mainly practiced in Tilenno itself, but is also commonly found in West Kesh. Due to the Tilennan diaspora many countries have a minority who practice Lonàkae. In total there are an estimated 65 million people who adhere to the Lonàkae religion.
Religious distribution
Lonàkae has always been the most dominant religion in modern Tilenno, although its share of followers has been decreasing over time as Atheism and foreign reigions rise in importance, mainly due to immigration. Atheism has been steadily rising, most conversions come from the Christian relgions as you would be better of being Atheist than Christian in Tilenno, and in general secularisation of these groups is higher across Anterra. Buddhism from Akiteiwa is the 4th most common religion, brought to Tilenno by Akitei immigrants.

Education
Education in Tilenno is compulsory untill the legal age of 16 in either public or private schools or by homeschooling. Public schooling in Tilenno is in comparison to other countries in Avalonia far below standard, due to lack of public funding. The 2015 census showed that around 84% of the youth are enrolled in public schools, causing Tilenno to have a severe undereducated population. Only 4% of people who graduate public schools pursues advanced education. Private schools in Tilenno enroll around 14% of the youth. While mostly reserved for the wealthier layers of society, it is not uncommon for poorer children to receive scholarships if they show potential. The precentage of graduates who continue their education after private school is almost 100%.
The Tilennan curriculum can be modified by each region separately, or in the case of Gantes by each city-state. A mandatory list of subjects must be taught in every school, this includes: Tilennan, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education and Arts. Ovannois is also commonly taught across Tilenno, but is rarely mandatory except for the Ovannois regions. Most schools also include relgious teachings of Lonàkae in combination with Philsophy, Psychology is also a common subject. Sex Education is not commonly given at Tilennan schools.
Recent movements and protest to fix the current flawed education system have become more prominent over the last years. Protesters demand more funding and equipment for public education as well as more competent teachers and more modern infrastructure. The government has already made plans to improve the current situation, but almost no direct measures have been implemented yet.
Higher education in Tilenno however is on the level of their neighbours. Her most prestigious university, University of Taumàsae in Hireno, ranks 145th worldwide. Other important institutes in Tilenno include: Lonàkean University of Glikaero, Free University of Martones and the Technical University of Ytriva.
Cities
The Largest city in Tilenno is Glikaero with a population of 5.157.682. It is located in the similarly named island of Glikaero within the Diamond Islands group. The city-state is also named Glikaero, which then itself is located in the region of Atriva. The city sits on the Glikae Bay, sometimes also called the Diamond bay. It is surrounded by smaller cities and towns, which are all generally counted towards the greater metropolitan area. The city is mainly known for its jewellary industry.
The Capital however is Hireno, only slightly smaller at a population of 4.853.246. The entire city of Hireno forms one city-state which doesn't belong to any region. Since it is solely a federal area, it is sometimes also called a free city-state. Most of Tilenno's major political institutions are located here like the Imperial Court, Parliament and the Pural Palace. The highest acclaimed university, the University of Taumàse, is also located here.
The third biggest city, and largest Ovannois speaking one is Martones or Saint-Martin. This city was founded by Ovannois colonizers in the 15th century and remains the base of operations for the Ovannois community. The city has over time become more integrated to Tilennan society and is becoming bilingual.
Other famous cities are Ytriva, capital and cultural centerpoint of Gantes. Ennia, capital of Zesha located on the mountains lakes between two of the biggest mountain ranges and with a view of Leta Ulèsares. Cajenna, founded by the Ovannois and true to Ovannois culture. Chives, home of seafood and festivals. Ashae, an island in the lake of Gantes, know for its swimmers and sport competitions like open water swimming and the Ashaeic festival. Làgora, historical capital of Làmosa and culturally rich. And Umia, claimed birthplace of famous philosopher Taumàsae.
Tilenno has a high degree of urbanisation, but is also very decentralised. This has caused population to move towards their respective regional capital, instead of one central location. This combined with generous city boundaries causes many Tilennan cities to be relatively big for the total population size.

City-states
Tilenno is divided into 36 city-states, excluding The capital area of Hireno , which is part of the federal area, along with Kaesami and Latanga. Every city-state sends 2 experienced senators to the Senate and between 4 and 62 representatives to the Chamber, with Glikaero sending the most at 62 followed by Ytriva and Martones at 36. In total the city-states send 72 senators and 468 representatives. All city-states have a central city, with its own government. This government has power over the state capital region. Every city-state also has localities, that have a smaller administration, they govern their own locality, but can be overruled by the central city at any time. The governments of the localities together with the central city make up the city-state council. The head of a city state is called the lord. The city state council has power over local affairs across the state.
Regions
All city-states belong to one of 5 regions: Gantes, Atriva, Làmosa, Kàtouro or Pàvona. The regions control local interests like education, healthcare, infrastructure and tourism. Each regions governor also has a seat or can appoint someone to have a seat in the federal cabinet. Zesha is sometimes counted as a region, but is structuraly different from them.
Communities
Tilenno is also divided into 3 Communities: The Tilennan community, Ovannois community and the West Tethys Community. Not to be confused with the regions, communities mainly act on a cultural scope. They regulate culture, media, language and religious affairs. Each governor of the communities also has a seat in the cabinet. While Zesha is part of the French community, it doesn't participate in its administration due to language barriers.
Autonomous region of Zesha
The region of Zesha became part of Tilenno for the first time in 984, as a result of the Steppe wars. Short after it became independent again during the rule of the 5 dynasties in 1052. Joining Tilenno in 1573, due to the colonial threat, it became the 5th region, since Pavona was still part of Atriva. As colonialism faded, protests emerged in Zesha in 1831, asking for independence. This resulted in the autonomous region of Zesha we know today.
Zesha has her own parliament, but the federal government can still veto every decision made. It has power over internal affairs, economy, education and culture, healthcare, social security, jurisdiction and tourism. The cuurent Prime Minister of Zesha is Deresho Kótres.
It is subdivided into 4 regions: Zesha Tetiso, Zesha Lurano, Zesha Òdeito and Tilae Erano. These don't have a government like the city-states do. All power is directly in hands of the Zeshan government. Zesha does features municipalties which act like the localities elsewhere.
Federal Area
The Federal area refers to the land that doesn't belong to any region within Tilenno's borders. There are 3 distinct federal areas: The desert of Kaesami, the Hireno capital area and the disputed islands of Latanga
The Hireno Capital region is the only part of the federal area that has voting right. It sends 50 representatives and 2 senators. It functions as the capital of Tilenno and seat of the Emperor. Hireno has historicaly never been part of any region and joined the Tilennan Confederation only if it could maintain a degree of autonomy. It was also the house of Hireno which delivered the current imperial lineage. As it isn't part of any region or community, those responsibilties are managed by Hireno itself.
People living in the desert of Kaesami have no voting rights, but are still under federal law. But legal enforcement has been lacking, making it a free port for crime, gambling and prostitution. There is only one noteworthy town here, Dòraso and it's surrounding towns, by the lake of Kúsha, with an estimated 600,000 inhabitants, which is 80% of the total population of Kaesami.
The Islands of Latanga are a disputed territory with Yarova, and in reality don't participate in Tilennan politics. No Tilennan laws are inforced nor do they vote in elections.
Federal Government
The Federal Government consists out of the Senate and Chamber that together form the Parlement and the Cabinet lead by the Prime Minister. After the elections the party with the most representatives in the chamber can form coalition so that a majority of representatives is reached. One of the members of the wining party becomes Prime Minister and gets to form the Cabinet that reflects the coalition formed. The governors of the regions and communities are also part of the cabinet and are there to represent there regions or community's interests. Other parties form the opposition.
Currently the Government is lead by the central-right liberalist party Glaechedé (Vivons Ensemble) in coalition with the right confederalist party Glaela Lete (l'Avenir Ensemble) and the right conservative party Tilenno Kítrae (Nouvelle Tilène) with as Prime Minister Mèrena Loutecho from Glaechedé. As the winning party is only active in the Tilennan speaking part, the French community has expressed their dissatisfaction with the current government multiple times.
Pures
The Current Pures or Monarch of Tilenno, Hirenes Nàteicho, is a direct decent of the Hirenean king. The title Pures is however for the most part symbolical. The Pures however can initiate the Purèsian overrule protocol, in which many steps of bureaucracy are skipped. This is only supposed to be used in emergency situations. The Pures line has traditionally disregarded gender as an important factor in deciding the next heir. Even so the last 3 Purei have been male.
The Pures' function in Tilennan politics is to symbolically appoint the Federal Government as well as the Purèsian Court, the highest form of justice, and Purèsian Senators, special senators that hold position for life and are not affiliated with any political party, only in cases of treason, bribery or abuse of power can these be removed from function.

Art
Art is a big part of Tilennan culture and stretches far back into history. During the Terukian age various forms of pottery and sculpting were popular. Statues were typically carved out of white sandstone and depicted mainly gods, kings and various types of fruit. The most famous sculpture Three figs and a date is currently displayed in Ornans after it was stolen from Tilenno in the Colonial age. The sculpture is said to refer to the integrity of Terukian society, with the figs representing love, balance and harmony with the date symbolizing desire. However no contemporary sources prove this hypothesis, with most historians agreeing it has no deeper meaning than just being fruit.
With the rise of the city states, new forms of art flourished, especially calligraphy and woodworking became incredibly popular. Wood was seen as a precious resource as trees were not common and cutting one down to make art with was seen as a sign of extreme wealth. It became so popular the city state of Glikaero went through a wood crisis and banned the art of woodworking for purely decorative purposes. Sculpting remained popular with themes shifting more towards depicting stories and myths rather than worship.
During the Purèsian Age art stagnated and was mainly used as a tool to display the greatness of the empire rather than cultural enrichment. Only when the empire collapsed into the five dynasties art picked back up steam and the dynasties were in a competition to outperform each other in cultural significance, striving to have the best athletes, sculptures, weavers, musicians and so on. A great focus was laid on the use of colour and most pieces from this era are eye-bleedingly bright. The dynasties loved showing off elaborate tapestries with vivid colour depicting the greatness of their region.
With the arrival of the Artemians in the 16th century, Tilenno was introduced to traditional oil painting techniques. Many Tilennan artists adopted this form of painting and gave rise to the Tilennan masters of the 17th and 18th century. These paintings were mainly used as propaganda during the time of war and to create a strong Tilennan identity. Ríches Faesèrae and Nilae Sàleso were the most famous artist during this period, with the lather painting the famous Liberation of Làgora in 1754 depicting the deciding battle in the Ovancian-Tilennan colonial wars of the 18th century.
After the unification of Tilenno the industrial revolution got started. Tilenno was quite late in fully adapting the innovations of the west and so too came the movements of romanticism and realism at a delay. Tilennans were always really great in not fully understanding what a movement was about and the Tilennan variant of romantiscism for example is quite far removed from its western counterpart. It often features human-animal hybrids in exotic environments like the arctic.
Moving into the contemporary art scene Tilenno puts heavy focus on it's Avalonian Culture Awareness Program which aims to promote traditional Avalonian culture across the world. So can international art platforms, like museums and expositions receive financial support for including Tilennan art into their collections. Famous modern artists include Sires Àstero, who painted the Hirenean pillars completely black, Kaela Darte, who painted The dance of 5 leopards and a baby and Verona Bedalo who threw herself of Tilenno's highest building covered in paint onto a canvas and called the splash the impact made art. Afterwards it was discovered the stunt was faked, but the painting is still internationally famous.
Body and face paint, often in permanent form, like tattoos, is a common practice in Tilenno. The right shoulder and upper arm of a man, and sometimes women typically receive family and regional markings. The face of man and women are painted for purely decorative reasons and often as a display of status. This tradition continues into the modern day, but has lost most of it's cultural significance and status, but is exclusively done for aesthetic purposes, with also many people now refusing to mark their faces.
Architecture
Traditional Tilennan architecture draws lots of inspiration from nature and incorporates flowing and organic shapes rather than ridged straight lines. It makes heavy use of white sandstone natively found all around Tilenno. Most buildings also feature a specific kind of dome that has been described as either a flower or a flame. For more elaborate buildings, the sandstone is often coloured, especially the domes, mostly with a red pigment created from the serela berry or with gold.
With the arrival of the Ovannois, a lot of more traditional Artemian buildings were erected, mainly in the region of Katouro and in the city of Martones. Martones is often called the Ornans of Avalonia, due to it's resemblance in architectural style. It has barely any skyscrapers and has that classic Ornansian sandstone with black roofs style. Kàtouro is also home to a plethora of castles and forts with the most famous one being Le Château de La-Roche-sur-Reine.
Houses generally have windows on the West and East side of the house to maximize wind blowing through it and to avoid the midday sun from heating it up to much. The sandstone doesn't preserve heat very well, so during the night houses can cool down enough for them to never get overheated. Due to this buildings are open and let in a lot of light. With the rise of air conditioning these building limitations became less important, although still a majority of houses in Tilenno don't have AC. Plants are also commonly seen around Tilennan cities, with many cities featuring large parks, mainly to moderate to heat and provide shade.
Tilennan architecture lays a heavy focus on the presence of water. It is common for wealthy citizens to create artificial ponds, fountains and recently also swimming pools around their estate to show of their wealth. Water also plays a major role in Tilennan symbolism and culture, bringing water close to your house meant that you live in a more balanced environment increasing your chances to reach the Lonakean endgame. Sport venues are also required to be placed in proximity to water. They are often constructed in a half circle shape overlooking a body of water. Most sport fields are also slightly flooded, mainly volleyball is played this way in Tilenno. This practice however is becoming more and more phased out due to the pressure of the international sports community to keep the terrains more in line with has been established.
Nowadays more and more skyscrapers are seen across Tilennnan cities as housing in the large urban areas becomes more scarce. Many people are against this evolution as they argue that the skyscrapers take away from the importance of traditional monuments, but this has not stopped them from being built. Tilenno has however taken note from the Avalonian High North's way of building skyscraper, giving them a wide base with a more narrow tower to keep the streets open, but also solve the housing crisis at the same time.
Some famous buildings in Tilenno include the Purèsian Palace, Twin Pillars, Temple of Modesty and Museum of the Eternal Sun in Hireno, the Temple of Refreshment and Gomeires Lono Càneido in Glikaero, the Àrena Purena and Palace des Fleurs in Martones, the Two Cliff Palace in Ennia and the Shrine of Lena on the Holy Shrine Island.
Cuisine
Tilennan cuisine is known for it's unique ingredients that are not commonly found outside of the country. People typically cooking with plant based oils instead of fat based animal products.
Traditionally mainly corn and tiresta were grown, but in the 4th century BC potatoes became an integral part of Tilennan cuisine as well. Dough based dishes always have been popular in Tilenno, with the first form of pizza being created here. The modern form of pizza we known today is an Artemian adaptation of the Tilennan dish. Tilennan pizza is made from tiresta dough with tomato paste and alpaca cheese often complemented with sweet ingredients like pineapple, serela, napales or even orange. Recently Tilenno also has conducted a potato breeding program, which gave rise to the current 2 most popular potato varieties, Tilennan Odeitan potato and the Kítrae sweet potato. In the 16th century rice from Akiteiwa and Kodeshia got introduced to Tilenno and gave rise to some typical Tilennan dishes inspired by East Keshi recipes like Pàmosa, Tilennan rice bowl and Kaerei, Tilennan rice cake.
Meats play a smaller role in Tilennan cuisine. The most consumed meat is Serelian Turkey, but it is slowly being replaced by chicken due to it's affordability. Odeitan Ox is also popular for consummation as they are not suited for milk production. Later sheep and goats got introduced to Tilenno and are also widely kept for milk and meat production. Deer and Cloud Alpaca is also consumed, but is typically reserved for special occasion. Until recently it was forbidden to sell deer meat for the most part of the year, but the ban has since been lifted. Fish and seafood however are more popular. The most popular fish is Atrivan Seahawk, but different forms of salmon, cod and tuna are also eaten. Besides fish other seafoods are very popular in the federation. Especially moules d'Orena are highly valued and one of the most wanted variation of mussles. Octopus and squid are also consumed, in particular Chivese Octopus and St. Martin's Squid. Chivese Octopus is however prone to overfishing and recently the supply has been lacking, driving prices up, which has made it unavailable in many parts of the country.
The region of Limenae is famous for its orange and other fruit production, it even claims the Ovannois term 'limonade' originated here, although this is a very contested claim. It first started cultivating oranges after Ovannois colonizers introduced them to it in the 16th century. The region is responsible for 70% of citrus production and 30% of fruit production in Tilenno. The region specialises in the making of lemonade and Limoneta, an citrus based alcoholic drink. One of the main factories of international soft drink company Golden Jade is located near the city of Limona.
Salt within Tilennan cuisine is used in a very specific way. Tilenno produces a multitude of different salt types and flavours and is internationally known for its high quality salt. We differentiate between 4 main types of salt that have specific uses when cooking: kartes lono or sea salt used when cooking with sea food and other dishes prepared in water like pasta, kartes letos or mountain salt, used when cooking with red meats and starchy products kartes loqo or lake salt, used when cooking with white meats and vegetables and is a more general all purpose salt. Lastly there is kartes bazjo or rock salt which is reserved for special occasions. Tilennan cuisine also makes heavy use of other spices, but dishes aren't generally spicy. Tilenno is famous for its particular spice mix: Kàraeti which is a mix of cumin, paprika, cinnamon, tarragon and basil used to prepare everything from meat, rice to vegetables. Other popular spices are white lavender, saffron, ginger and tenàseira.
On the level of candy and sweets Tilenno has a long history of producing rock candy, with records from the 5th century BCE already mentioning the recipe. Besides that Caramel made from sugar imported from Latanga was very popular. When the Ovannoiss arrived they brought with them the art of baking and taught Tilennans how to make crêpes, waffles, cookies and other pastries. Tilennan variants of these products often exclude the heavy use of butter. The crêpes of the city of Darugon in Zesha are especially well-received.
Tilenno also produces various forms of alcohol like the serelian berry based Shizae. Shizae is sold in 3 different forms, red, pink and white. The red variant is the strongest at 78% alcohol content and is typically lengthened with water. Pink is less strong at only 30% and is drunk as a spirit. White Shizae is the weakest and is drunk in larger quantities. Other alcohols produced in Tilenno are the orange-based Limoneta, tomato-based Genàsae, rice-based Saki and napales-based Tequila. Wine and Beer are typically hard to come by in Tilenno. Besides alcohol, various hot drinks are widely consumed in Tilenno. A traditional Tilennan drink is Sàlora or Alpaca milk mixed with various fruits and berries, which is then heated up. Coca based drinks from South Avalonia made their way to the country somewhere in the 3rd or 2nd century BCE and still remain popular. Tea was introduced in the 16th century from East Kesh and various Tilennan variants of tea were created since, like the Kae Tea made from Sunroot. Coffee arrived in the 18th century and has since then exploded in popularity.
Some other typical Tilennan dishes include: Sweet potato stuffed turkey, Alpaca ribs karaeti, Tilennan style pizza, Apple-chili curry, Tedema cookies, Fazjita, Nachos and Apatera or stew of deer. In Tilenno a couple of 3-star restaurants are located like the Toma Glisaeno of chef Milo Deika, which has steadily ranked in the top 50 of restaurants worldwide and is mainly known for its high quality seafood and desserts. Also renowned is Noricha for its experimental cuisine and its heavy use of flowers in recipes. Besides restaurants the Tilennan brand Maeres is famous for their potato, corn and other plant based chips as well as their Tilennan style instant noodles and rice.
Sport
Historically the famous Ashaeic Festival was held in the city of Ashae every half Seicha, a period of 6 years. The festival, started during the Sailing Age, brought together all the different City-States of Tilenno and around to compete in multiple disciplines. These were Swimming, Úches, a sport similar to volleyball, Running, Archery, Javelin, Martial arts, Sailing and Dance. The tradition fell out of favour during the imperial age, but has recently been revived and is now held every 3 years in Ashae, with Tilennan Volleyball replacing Úches and Taekwondo Martial Arts.
Tilenno mainly excels at aquatics in international competitions, often winning gold at world championships in multiple disciplines. It has received the most wins in the 100m butterfly of all disciplines and has ranked first at the WC for 14 years straight. Tilenno's most famous swimmer is Faero Derianes, who has won 24 world championships to date. Other aquatic sports like diving, sailing and rowing are also popular in Tilenno. Recently the Tilennan synchronized swimming team has been able to win the 2020 world championship. Tilenno is also very well known for it's surfing beaches and receives many tourists for this exact reason, it is also a major advocate for Surfing at the Olympics.
The national women's volleyball team of Tilenno has also a reputation of being extremely skilled, with it having won the WC 12 times already and often placing 2nd. Tilenno also knows it's own variant of volleyball based of the ancient sport of Úches, played in a shallow layer of water instead of a dry terrain and with 3 people on each side. The sport is slowly getting replaced with standard volleyball as the international association doesn't recognize the sport and deems it unsanitary.
The Sànatae Martones Open, one of the Major Solo Festivals of the Anterran Tennis League is hosted every year in the city of Martones. Tennis became popular in the colonized part of Tilenno during Ovannois rule and has since spread to other parts of the country and is now widely played. Tilenno has had some famous tennis players over the last years like Derae Pereno, Gano Remouchier and very recently Àdasha Kanaeso, who has won 14 of the Major Solo Festivals in total and Pauline Serae, who is the current defender of the Sanatae Martones Open title.
Recently Soccer has been gaining popularity in the early 21st century, with Tilenno even hosting the 2020 AIFA Anterran Cup, where it ended up becoming 4th, losing to Zahava in the semi-final and Jungastia in the small finale, it was the highest placement ever for the country since it first participated in 2004. For this event a lot of stadiums had to be built, with some cities even receiving venues with a capacity of over 50 000, which they would never be able to sustain, sparking a lot of controversy.
Competitive Dance is also a very popular sport. It is a combination between gymnastics and artistic dance where competitors dance in front of a jury who will give points on technique, rhythm and creativity. It also features many acrobatic moves and complex dancing technique. It can be practiced solo, in duo or in a group of up to 6. Most events are broadcast live across all of Tilenno and score high ratings on par with popular talent shows.
Other popular sports in Tilenno are, Atlethics, Taekwondo, Archery, Gymnastics, Field Hockey and Baseball.
Music
Music has played an important role throughout Tilennan history. Musical instruments like flutes and drums have been found in the ruins of as far back as the Terukian Age. The most influential instrument is however the Tilennan Harp, which was made using the intestines of cats. depictions of harps can be found all across Tilennan monuments and are often referred to in ancient text. To this day the harp remains a popular instrument in Tilennan music, although its usage and learning rate is slowly dwindeling.
More recently freeform jazz and swing were at some point very popular in Tilenno, and their influences can still be seen today. Revivals of the genre like electro swing are currently exploding in popularity as well. The style originally formed on the border of the southern regions of Pàvona with Osorra, making it also a very popular style in Osorra. Modern music however has evolved towards calmer and relaxed electronic genres, with artists like Taema Xaures and Shakira gaining international recognition and performing at large festivals all across Avalonia like Telenecko Fest in Baileneu Ma. Also for the first time disco music is appearing on the Tilennan music scene. Originally disco didn't catch on in its golden age, but now with the international comeback of the genre, Tilenno has fully hopped on the disco boat.
Tilenno itself is also home to a couple of the biggest festivals in Avalonia. The largest of these is Hireno Ro, or Irène Transcedente. It is held on the days following the winter solstice and coincides with the national holiday on December 24th and Christmas December 25th. It features a variety of different artist and genres on the 12 stages the festivals provides. The festival is located on a river island south of Hireno, only accessible by ferry. It is well known that people get completely drugged and wasted, completely removed from society. On average 5 people die every year, although in 2019, the record of 23 was hit. Chives is also an island know for its festival Fúcha Taeka. This beach festival mainly focusses on electronic music, ranging from EDM to electro swing. The festival is held on 12th of May and while smaller than Hireno Ro, still draws in a massive crowd. The event is especially famous for its fireworks show and technical stage effects. Tilenno also has various famous musical artists and bands in various genres. Rí Mae, famous pop singer of hits like 'Que non', 'Alors, on y va' and 'Crevé' has consistently charted in the international top 100 and her most famous music video has reached 10 billion views on Metu. Kae Sàno on the other hand is a famous jazz-rock band with hits like 'daeqòmadé' and 'wa upèro' has a very large and dedicated following in the North-Avalonian jazz scene.
Most music in Tilenno is regulated by Kio, who owns multiple radio stations and monitors the Tilennan top 100 list. It is also a major sponsor of music festivals and concerts and host multiple competitions to find new and upcoming artists. The Tilennan Music Awards, named the Rosei, are also awarded by Kio every year.
Cinema and Media
Cinema in Tilenno is a in whole separate category than the rest of the world. Often described by foreigners as strange, bizarre, unsettling or just downright madness inducing, Tilennan cinema hasn't gotten the global recognition it deserves. It often tackles themes of the supernatural, occult and mystical as well as loss of identity and absorption into the unknown. One genre that does have some international appeal is that of horror, even if films weren't intended as one at first. Recently there has also been seen a counter movement, that produces more light-hearted and positive content, but this is often seen as childish and devoid of any real substance.
Even so a couple of famous international actors are from Tilennan decent. Tèno Liraeko, who starred in the hit movies I swear, not again" and Love is for the weak, was born in Perto, but currently lives in Soto, Kaya. Also Mila Arianne, famous for Come again and Red, is originally from Kàraeko and currently resides in Ornans, Ovancia. International movies and series are however very popular in Tilenno. Especially Kayaese and other South-Avalonian dramas draw in large audiences. Similar Tilennan shows have been produced, but aren't as beloved. Ovannois cinema is also popular, especially in the north. Its themes, while regarded as less intense than Tilennan, overlap with the general taste of the population, even in the south. Most Ovannois movies end up being dubbed in Tilennan. More mainstream media like the international blockbuster movies from Brigantica, Legantus and Tiperyn, even though still popular, generally perform less well than in other Avalonian nations.
Tilenno also has a modest, but still active animation industry. It produces a variety of shows, with a wide demographic from kids to adults. One of the most famous shows to come from this industry is, Àrones rís Qlikae Mauda, and has been translated in numerous languages across Anterra.
The biggest broadcaster in Tilenno is the Agliràvaera Tilenia Unaela (ATU), which translates to Better Tilennan Broadcaster. It owns multiple TV channels like, ATU Wé, Ta and Qes (One, Two and Three) and also one Ovannois channel Rénu. It mainly produces news and variety shows, like the Great Tilennan Bake-off, itself, while most prime time tv-series come from international producers. The largest newspaper in Tilenno is Glaela (Future or l'Avenir) and is generally seen as a good neutral source of information, although somewhat biased towards the federal government and its often controversial measures.
Recently there also has been a rise in internet stars and influencer. One of the biggest fashion and beauty icons on the video-sharing platform Metu, Lisa Renoît, has accumulated over 12 million subscribers and is still growing. She focusses on androgynous fashion and make-up and non-conforming expression of oneself. Most large channels produce content in Ovannois to reach a wider audience. There are also multiple very popular Tilennan influencers on image sharing platforms, often followed for there unique and exotic appearance. While many people find the fetishization of Tilennan ethnicity to be unsettling, some have made serious cash on it.
Fashion
Traditional Tilennan fashion is compromised of a couple different elements. The top piece consists of a metal top bar or frame to which the fabric is attached. Since the metal is quite rigid this limits the range of movement and is therefore only used for more formal occasions. The lower part has a metal ring around the waist with fabric draped like a skirt coming from it. Traditionally no pants are featured in Tilennan fashion. Common folk typically wear a form of tunic with a rope strapped around the waist and optional leather shoulder pads. Clothes are typically made from either a silk like substance, created from a bug native to Tilenno or cotton. Fabric can be dyed, but the process to turn the silk white is one of the most difficult, causing white fabric to be more prized over coloured or natural toned ones. More wealthy people could also be seen wearing silk drapes on their arms connecting to the metal br on top and a bracelet at the wrist. Footwear was typically limited to sandals.
Modern Tilennan fashion is more similar to that of other nations around the world, with dresses still commonplace for men, as gender roles are less prevalent in Tilennan society. Most clothes receive also extra padding around the shoulders to mimic the metal shoulder support of the past. Some famous fashion designer from Tilenno are Fales Sedaeka, renowned for his androgynous style of designing clothes and Loune Leriànaeres, a luxury fashion designer, especially known for her revealing fashion choices.
Tilenno is also one of the major exporters of quality undergarments, with many underwear brands being located there. Tilennan silk is in high demand and can only be produced locally causing prices to spike worldwide for Tilennan silk undergarments. Other products like ties and dresses, while less commonly produced are also highly valued. The brand Loraeches is currently the biggest producer of these garments.
Another big industry in Tilenno is the perfumery sector. Starting as an offshoot of the bigger chemical companies, perfume has become one of the most important exports from Tilenno. While some brands are originally Tilennan like Saelo and Qlikes, most perfume gets exported to international companies to end up under their name. While the modern perfumery sector is quite recent, Tilenno knows a rich history of perfume use, with many small villages producing their own kind of perfume to distinguish themself from outsiders.
The biggest fashion industry in Tilenno however is the jewellery sector. With one of the largest diamond mined located on Tilennan soil, combined with large metal deposits like gold and silver, Tilenno is one of the biggest exporter of raw precious minerals and metals. While a lot of diamonds and other precious minerals get exported raw to be processed internationally, Tilenno has recently put more effort in expanding its own jewellery industry and promoting Tilennan brands on an international level. It's trying to cut down on exporting raw materials and aims to process more internally, much to the dismay of international jewellery brands that rely on Tilennan diamonds for their products. Tilennan jewellery is also not limited to women, but men are often seen wearing it, including earrings, necklaces, headbands and bracelets, with no noticeable difference between male and female accessories.
Androgynous Culture
In contrast to Western Culture, Tilennan society doesn't have a strong presence of gender norms and identity. Men typically have long hair, wear jewelery like earrings, rings and necklaces and apply make-up. Women are often seen in positions of strength and leadership. Children are mostly taken care of by the father or other male figures of the family. Custody in case of divorce is mostly granted to the dad.
Due to this Tilenno is one of the more gender equal nations in the world, with one of the smallest pay gaps and lowest rate of gender discrimination. However the situation is not perfect as women still face many challenges like rape and abuse that are often swept under the rug.
Drag and crossdressing are not seen as weird in Tilennan entertainment and many Tilennan celebrities pride theirselfs in being androgynous and not conform to any gender. Often people, especially foreigners, will have a hard time figuring out someones gender. This however is not important as referring to someone is not gender based in the Tilennan language, but relies on proximity to the speaker. The Tilennan variant of Ovannois often ignores gender as a concept entirely, but is still used in formal text.
There's also a large support for transgender and non-binary people. But since Tilennan culture has less distinct gender expression, many transgender people don't feel the need to transition and gender disphoria rates are lower in Tilenno as a whole. Bathrooms almost exclusively unisex with urinals generally missing. Transition is completely legal and largelt supported.
Rights for members of the LGB community are however not as liberal. Gay marriage, relations and intercourse remains illegal in Tilenno and when reported can lead to prison sentence and in extreme cases to loss of citizenship.
