The Smållhund is a 6x6-wheeled armoured personell carrier, developed by the sannlig state owned arms manufacturer Sannsystems AB, respectively its division S²Armours. The Smållhund is intended as succesor to the Villhund I armoured fighting vehicle.

Origin

The Smållhund was intended as succesor to the Villhund I armoured fighting vehicle and was developed as a private venture by Sannsystems, mainly aiming for the export market. This was reasoned by the development of the Villhund II armoured fighting vehicle, which was going to be a heavier 8x8 vehicle according to ringeriker and sannlig requirements. Despite this Sannsystems officials still saw a market for a lighter 6x6 vehicle and began developing the Smållhund, which was first based on the Villhund I, but later utilized a large share of parts from the Villhund II as well as of the development of the Villhund III (AFV).

Later ringeriker and sannlig forces introduced chose the Smållhund as succesor to the Stormpanserfordon Villsvin and the Villhund I recce vehicles, for which a modernised and heavier armed variant was developed and introduced in 1996.

In the following, an 8x8 Variant of the Smållhund replaced the Villhund II in the Sannsystems product portfolio.
