The Republic Defense Forces (Sannligs: Republikken Forsvarets) are the military of the Republic of Sannlibo. They have 170.000 active personnel and 150,000 reserves. The main task is the defense of the sannlig territory and people. In addition defensive aid for allied nations or out of area operations to promote Sannlibo's interests abroad, support peacekeeping or huminatarian aid can also be part of the tasks, as long as authorised by the parliament.
The RFV in the current formation were established in 1949, following the 2nd Treaty of Skagerrak, and originally named Royal Defence Forces (Kongelig Sannlig Forsvarets), which changed in 1963 when Sannlibo became a Republic. They consist of the Land Forces (Landvarets), as the primary land warfare element, the Republic's Navy (Republikken Marine), as the principal branch for seaborne operations, the Air Force (Luftvapnet), conducting all kinds of areal operations and operating most aircraft of the sannlig military, and the Guard Forces (Gardestyrker), which is responsible for the honour guards, called the Guard Rangers (Gardejaegers), the Territorial Support Forces (Reserves, formerly called Homeguard) and the military police, also called Mounted Guard (Hastgardet).
Commander-in-chief is the Minister of Defence, currently Greta Petersen, however this is only the peacetime regulation, since in wartimes this role switches to the prime minister, currently Maria Jansen. All key-decisions, e.g. deployments, procurement or manpower, are made by the Minister of Defence. The soldiers themselves are sworn in allegiance to the sannlig constitution and democracy.
Due to historical conditions the cooperation between the Ringeriker Armed Forces and the RFV is at a high level. E.g. are sannlig units integrated into ringeriker structures, while both also use a lot of similar equipment or even co-develop military equipment like the AFV Villhund.
Doctrine
The Doctrine of the Republic Defense Forces is prescribed by the "National White Paper for the Strategy of the National Security", with the last edition published in 2012. It describes the Defense Forces as an elemental part of the national security system, with the task to prevent possible external threats to Sannlibo and its citizens, and if necessary to counter these threats. As primary ways to prevent and counter such said threats, the Paper describes two pillars, which are names "Show of Force" and "Advance of Information". The pillar shor of force prescribes an extensive presence abroad, support of partner nations in their security efforts as well as a fast deployability to both domestic and overseas interventions, while the pillar "Advance of Information" contains a high emphasis on battlefield reconnaissance, an alltime awareness in all dimensions, even in peacetime, an intensified cooperation with the intelligence services, as well as the networked exchange of information between all components of the Defense Forces.
If an armed conflict erupts or an armed attack on Sannlibo is proceeded anyway, the doctrine prescribes different measures. One measure is the close coordination with partners, especially with Ringerike, with which Sannlibo even shares a treaty of mutual defense. Another measure is making use of the Advance of Information and by that to conduct high precision strikes against highly valuable military targets, while keeping the colleteral damage as minimal as possible.

Equipment and Uniform
The Equipment of the Sannlig Forces is dominated by domestically manufactured systems. The most important domestic contractor is the state-owned Sannsystems AB. Furtherly Hyger Defence and Hasbrø Defense are part of the domestic military industrial complex. As well, Sannlibo contributes to the Northern Integrated Systems Group, with Sannsystems being the industrial member on the sannlig side. Much of todays equipment and even more future projects originate from joint development with Ringerike, e.g. Stålgilde. Many of these Projects are nowadays overseen by NISG.
