Northern Integrated Systems Group

The Northern Integrated Systems Group is a multinational partnership between the governments of Ringerike, Chezzetcook and Gardarike which facilitates co-operation in the design and development of various defense oriented products and technologies, as well as several joint state civil projects.

History

The NISG was established in 1958 through the partnership of the Chezzetcooker Société pour la Fabrication d'Artillerie (SFdA), the Ringeriker Stålgilde and later the Gardariki Valland companies. The group was established to oversee the design and manufacture of what would become the MBT 62. The successful development of which would be the driving factor for the expansion of the group's operating scope, with an intergovernmental agreement in 1964 formalizing a cooperative pact between the three was signed, establishing the NISG in it's current form.

Structure

The NISG is operated as a multinational state-owned venture with each partner controlling an equal share through varying mechanisms, it commonly functions as a middle-man for interactions between other state-owned or involved corporations, it is headquartered in La Hève, Chezzetcook and maintains large presences across all three member nations.

Nuclear Arms Development

The NISG had a key role in the sharing of Nuclear Weapons technology, providing Chezzetcooker engineering experience to the other nation's fledgling Nuclear Arms programs and therefore accelerating their completion.

Defense Projects

Electromagnetic Hypervelocity Gun

Early exploration into the feasibility of both Coilguns and Railguns was started by the NISG in the mid-1980s, with several prototypes being demonstrated over the years, issues remain however with generating and storing enough power to make such technologies practical, with current efforts being focused on electromagnetic weapons for ship emplaced purposes such as anti-missile and extreme long range surface bombardment tasks.

Electrothermal-Chemical Gun

The NISG's efforts towards developing a practical ETC Gun have been ongoing since at least the mid-1990s, being seen as a more feasible alternative to Coilguns and Railguns. The current aim of the program is mounting a full scale prototype on an experimental variant of the NISG MBT14 in the near future, the project has successfully produced several smaller caliber static prototypes with projected applications being tank guns, artillery and ship based close-in weapon systems.

Civil Projects

Joint Fusion Research Program

The Joint Fusion Research Program is a program with a stated end goal of developing a viable Nuclear Fusion Reactor for the purposes of civil power generation, to meet this end a series of research reactors are either in operation or being planned, with the flagship of the project being a 500MW Tokomak reactor planned to start deuterium–tritium operation in 2035, with a 16MW research reactor currently in service on the same site.

Genetic Research Program

This program jointly funds research into Gene Therapies, genetic manipulation and stem cell treatments, with a focus on curing several rare but debilitating illnesses, as well as manipulating crops to improve resilience and modify them for different environments.

Aerospace/Space Systems

Sleipnir

The Sleipnir is a super heavy launch vehicle loosely based on the Arvakr rocket family, it was originally just a design study, however when the files were shared within the NISG, the Chezzetcooker government expressed a keen interest in seeing it built for their use, offering to wholly fund it's development, the rocket would first fly in 2004 and remains in service to this day with further models and derivatives in the works.

Advanced Orbital Power and Propulsion Program

This program was initiated to explore the feasibility nuclear power and propulsion systems for extended duration and interplanetary space travel, the program builds on experience gained and testbeds produced by earlier national programs with several designs entering the technology and prototyping phase.

Habitation Study

The Habitation study covers all research conducted into the systems that support human life in space, with projects exploring gravity simulation, long term health effects of microgravity environment and the psychological impact long term isolation and close cohabitation within a limited size group, notably through a series of experiments involving subjects being isolated in simulated habitats for long periods of time. Another involves research into induced hibernation for extended duration missions.

Controversies and Conspiracy Theories

Several of the NISG's classified development programs have drawn attention over the years from various detractors and conspiracy theorists, with a focus on activities at the Dimmaland Proving Grounds located within Gardarike, conspiracies' range from simple accusations of corruption to the organization being a cover for research into captured alien technology or the containment of a slew of supposed 'Anomalous Entities'.
